Breakdown
It seems to me that we are down to five legitimate players left alive for the Heisman Trophy this year. For some reason, 1 is pretty much out in Case Keenum. At least people should now jump off the crashed C. J. Spiller bandwagon.
1. Colt McCoy – McCoy is really heating up, which was needed this week against a Texas A&M team that kept the game closer than it ever should have been. I think that he has a marginal lead coming into the final week.
2. Mark Ingram – From the sounds of it ESPN now can’t even stand the sight of him… how fickle they are. He has been at the top of the standings by an ever growing margin for a number of weeks. The question is will he get knocked out of the running in a win and be therefore judged differently than Tebow and McCoy who have numbers nowhere near QBs like Keenum and Moore or will he have a chance for redemption against Florida?
3. Tim Tebow – Has any other player meant more to their team this season that Tebow? He probably doesn’t have much of a chance to win it this year as he already has one, but I think that he is close in my book.
4. Tony Gerhart – The best statistical running back for a decent team. He now has over 1700 rushing yards and 26 TDs. Thos are some gaudy numbers.
5. Kase Keenum – The best statistical QB in the country plays in conference USA, but did lead this top 25 ranked team to two victories over teams near the top of the Big 12 and his team to a 10-2 record. He has over 4900 passing yards and 38 TDs.
Next Saturday after the games I will have my final Heisman predictions as well as my top five as I believe it should be.
