Buffy Anne Summers wins RedEye's Best Superhero Tournament.

In a tournament where hundreds of thousands of votes were cast overall, Buffy beat out 3 #1 seeds in the 32 character tournament for best Superhero.

In round one, she defeated Thor, who is no slouch with a rabid fanbase as well, 51.2% to 48.8 percent in her closest victory of the tournament while taking in 6393 positive votes.

Round two matched her up against the probable favorite of the tournament, Batman who is probably the most popular superhero ever, and stronger today than ever. After being behind earlier on, she came back for a convincing 58% to 42% victory taking in 6832 votes in the process, here most of any round.

The Elite Eight matchup came down a bit as she took on The Silver Surfer, who in my opinion is a niche character, nowhere near Batman. Buffy won, again convincingly, this time 60.4% to 39.6% with a total of 3887 votes for her.

The Final Four had her up against one of the other top Superheroes of all time, Superman. She continued to roll, however, winning 57.2% to 42.8% with 4682 votes.

The Final pitted her against the second or third most popular superhero character right now, Spider-Man. By this time, many of the voters had tuned out and Buffy won by a landslide 85% to 15% with 2516.

I was a bit surprised by the outcome, but when you get the Whedon-machine rolling, there is very little you can do to stop it.
