Is "Bong Hits 4 Jesus" protected by free speech?
During the Olympic torch relay in Jeneau, Alaska, a former high school student was suspended for holding up a banner reading "Bong Hits 4 Jesus." The boy was suspended and appealed the ruling under the state's Free Speech Provision.
The question being asked is whether or not the banner was legitimate political or social protest or a pro-drug statement?
However, wouldn'ta pro-drug statement be considered social protest? My question is whether or not the boy was on school grounds when this happend and wheter or not having Jesus on the banner had any effect on the ruling.
If the boy was on campus than I could see the school disciplining him as I'm sure their are anti-drug passages in the handbook. However, I would look for other drug issues at the school and see how they were handled compared to how his was to see if religion played a part. If it did, I would push back hard.
