Split Reaction on Splitting Hairs

SPLITTING HAIRS from Michael Boretz on Vimeo.

Splitting Hairs is the story of a many who has tried everything to get his hair back after he started going bald in high school. Nothing has worked and this has killed his confidence. After a disasterous pick-up line in a coffee house, the main character is approached by a man offering a miracle cure.

He decides to check it out and finds out that the man is killing homeless men, scalping them and then transferring the scalps to bald men. After seeing the results, our main character decides to go along with the procedure and chooses and kills the homeless man himself.

Later, he has long, full hippy hair and walks around, enjoying the attention that he now recieves. He even goes back to the same coffee shop from before and barely notices the girl who he had tried to attract before and instead moves on to a different woman who he quickly sets up a date with.

Things begin to go wrong when preparing for the date he sees a news program that the doctor who had performed the scalp transplant has been arrested and is giving up the information on his patients.

He is quickly tracked down and has one idea that might save him from going to jail. He picks up the hair trimmer...

We next see him in prison, hair still intact, as he twirls a thick strand of hair. After a couple of seconds, a new hand enters the frame, carressing his hair.

Splitting Hairs was a decent little short film with a couple of chuckles of comedy and an interesting little murder scheme. I thought that they could have done a bit more with the story, though or at least with the reveal that he had not cut his hair at the end. Plus, they seemed to play that once he got his new hair, he was taking a step up from Felecia Day to the new girl and it didn't really seem like that was the case to me. I just may be biased towards Felecia, though.

Overall, it was a decent little short film and well worth the 16 minutes to give it a shot.
