Which NCAA Football Conferences match with European Soccer Leagues?

NCAA = European Soccer

For whatever reason this morning, I decided to try to figure out which NCAA football conferences best matched up with European Soccer leagues. Also, which teams in each league match up the best with each other. This is a really silly little idea, but it caught hold in my head so I figured I would give it a go.

SEC – English Premier League – These leagues have some of the biggest heavyweights in their respective sport and tend to fair well when their top teams take on top teams from other leagues, but not as well when their mid-to-lower teams take on similar teams from other leagues.

Big 10 – German Bundasliga – These leagues have a couple of really good teams with some solid teams that follow behind. They are both known to have “winners” who haven’t been able to get it done in the clutch in the past few years.

Pac 10 – Spanish Primera Division – Beautiful teams to watch that play pretty well against other top competition. Both leagues have strong competition throughout and even thought there is a definite pecking order throughout, they all tend to play strong against each other.

ACC – Italian Serie A – Both leagues have solid leagues, but not as strong as the SEC/EPL or as flashy as the Pac 10/Spanish Primera. These teams have a strong pecking order more like the SEC/EPL, but only the very top teams perform well against contenders from outside their league.

Big 12 – Scottish Premier League – Leagues that are a bit looked down upon, but with two great teams with allot of tradition. However, once you get past these teams, the rest of the leagues are fairly weak. The top two teams play well outside of their league, but the others flounder nearly every time.

Big East – French League 1 – Leagues that once were good, but have fallen drastically over the past decade to the point where they are no longer considered first tier. The conferences are pretty even throughout with one team that really stands out above the rest, but others there to contend.

Conference USA – Greek Super League – Lower tier competition that can play with mid-to-low level teams in the other leagues.

MAC – Turkish Super Lig – Both leagues are thought of as near the bottom of the 2nd tier leagues or the top of the 3rd tier. However, they both have a couple teams that can surprisingly compete when playing out of their league.

Mountain West – Dutch Eredivisie – Both leagues have only one team that that can really challenge outside of the league with another a full step behind. There are then a few teams that challenge in the middle before a drop off in the league.

Sunbelt – Russian Premier League – Young league with a couple of teams that look poised to possibly break out in the future. However, they are still considered weak to most other leagues.

WAC – Portugese Liga – Generally thought of to be a mid-tier league, however, occasionally, one of their better teams will break out and contend with the top leagues.
